Health Insurance
When you come to live abroad, there are certain important arrangements that HAVE to be made. One of those is having a health insurance. Although you might also have it back home, it is important to arrange it at the country you are immigrating to. In fact, is not only ideal but is REQUIRED if you want to work in Holland and stay long term.
There are many companies that provide good packs for your basic or special needs depending on how much you want to pay monthly. One example would be “silver cross”, but again, there are many more companies that can help you out in any way, and their customer service most of the time has English speakers if needed!
Health Allowance
As many of us know, living away from home is already so expensive itself. Therefore, the government provides the option to give you a health allowance if some criteria are met.
If you are an International student/expat that would like to have this because your corporate is requiring it, know that it is possible to get this. (as well as house allowance but we will talk about that in another post!!) This is literally the only thing that got me and others from going broke during our first years in the Netherlands, thank you dutch system.
Be aware that if you actually don’t meet the requirements set on the official website, such as income, you will have to pay the amount you take back… trust me!! It has happened to my friends, and although the dutch law might take time, they will come and get you!! So please, be cautious, educate yourself, do the math and hope for the best!
Stay Safe!
You never know when an accident might be in sight due to bikes, cars or people, so it is definitely always to have a backup in case of emergency! As well, you can’t legally work without a health insurance, you are required to get it if you are living more than three months in the Netherlands on a visa.
