When will I receive the vaccine? – Holland edition

Posted on May 29, 2021January 10, 2022 by Adulting Abroad

The Pandemic – Covid-19

It is no surprise to anyone that the world has changed during the last couple of months. More so, we are still going through a “historic event” that will be told to the future generations to come. Believe it or not, life has changed in many ways due to the after-math of the pandemic.

Luckily for everyone, scientists have been working hard to provide vaccines that can protect the population (95% efficiency) from the virus and get some stability back to normal. Of course, there are expats that had to quarantine away from their family (including myself). I am proud of all of you, we made it, we will make it, we will reunite with our loved ones, hang in there.

How about Vaccinations?

As mentioned, the vaccines have been rolling out everywhere in the world (woohoo!!). Yet, it is a bit unsure how the method will apply to expats living abroad. As far as I know for Holland, the vaccines will be given to anyone that resides in the country. The vaccination schedule has been published and all we have to do is wait.

As any process, it is not easy to make sure that everyone gets the vaccine in time. Holland is decreasing their measures as the days go by, which in my opinion is not really the ideal way. I think it is better to keep some regulations whilst opening the HORECA (restaurants etc), yet not completely go to phase 2. This is because I see more people not caring about the pandemic and thinking that life is as normal. It is not. The risk is still there, the virus is still there and the deaths are increasing everywhere.

However, lucky for the duchies and people living in holland, the vaccines have already been going through, hopefully that can protect us from “I don’t care” mentality people!!

What should I do in regards to the vaccine?

Overall, keep an eye out on the website of the government, consult with your family doctor and read the news!! This is the way that we will know when we will be able to get the vaccine. I am still waiting for mine and still keeping to the old regulations, because remember, if you get covid, it will take longer to get the vaccine.

Be safe, wear your mask and let’s get vaccinated! Be patient and always keep an eye out for the informational website so if your year is there, you can make an appointment and get reunited with your loved ones sooner than expected!! (although expect some delays with the delivery of the vaccine, it’s not like we live in the USA!)

I think expats are one of the strongest people in the world. They are the ones that have to go reunite with family with an expiry date, dreading the days of that return flight ticket.

Luckily for me, nothing changes but makes me more connected to my parents. However, I am already counting down the days to that one way ticket dream to reunite after conquering Europe for a bit longer.

Summer holidays have become my favorite season of the year, to get on that plane and be at home again ✈️
