Two years and a bit more.. that’s how long the pandemic has been lasting. The world changed to what was the normal for us. It became this atmosphere of uncertainty, loneliness, sacredness, death and technology. There were many people who lost their loved ones, had to be hospitalized, get through the fear of needles and learn how to live within walls. Covid-19 has brought a sense of so many emotions that most of us didn’t know we could feel. I had moments where I cried for others that I didn’t know who had to go through a rough time. Sensitivity, Sympathy and Empathy, key words that can describe this years of nostalgia and uncertainty.
Even though there are so many conspiracies and different points of views whether the Covid-19 vaccine helps or not, most of us decided to take a leap of faith in science and trust the system, for once. Now, as many mutations are rising from different countries without a general knowledge on them, a booster was created. The so called third shot.. and fourth and fifth and sixth to probably come.
Booster shot
At least in Holland, the introduction of the third booster shot has started since December 2021. Although it had a slow start compared to other European countries, it has already captivated the question whether it is worth it or not. From my experience, I recommend you to take it. Take the booster if you want to travel, stay protected, and want this pandemic to stabilize.
People who are against the vaccines or science choose to focus on the conspiracies that are spread on youtube or the media, which is fair. However, it would be ideal to also focus on the amount of death, hurt, sorrow and impotent feeling that most of us have experienced due to our relatives being sick, being far or hospitalized.. I mean most cases are of the unvaccinated so what other proof do we people need??
What can I expect?
In many countries, there are different strategies of which vaccines are for what age group. In Canada, they started giving the moderna booster for people that are above 30+. The Pfizer shot is being used for those that are between 16-30 years old. In Holland, well, to be honest, I have no idea what strategy they are choosing to allocate vaccines here.
At first, it was pretty random, you show up to the location and somehow the person picks whether you get Moderna or Pfizer. However, for the booster shot, expect to have a mixed combination. Unlike me, I had my booster with Pfizer but another person had theirs with Pfizer as well, even though he was vaccinated with Moderna at the start.
Do not be afraid tho. Having a combination vaccine is actually more effective, but if you also have the same one, that is also fine. As long as you get something, that is good enough! There might be some pain in your armpit, headache and flu like symptoms but it will go away in a week or so. If the pain in your armpit is there for more than 4 weeks, then consult your doctor!!
Get that Booster and hope for the best! Especially if you want to travel, then definitely get the booster, as countries like Austria, are only receiving people who had their booster shot too. Rules will change soon, adapt and go with the movement.
