Christmas gifts – what to give and receive?

Posted on November 21, 2023November 21, 2023 by Adulting Abroad

With the holidays coming up, no matter what religion, December is the month of giving and receiving.. With that, there might be a lot of brainstorming on the choice of gifts. Sometimes it is the case that you already thought of great ideas used for birthdays or special occasions; which leaves December sometimes a struggle to think of a present to give away.

Below are some ideas to inspire your future shopping:

Gifts for him

I find that guys have it so easy when it comes to gifts. A nice pair of socks, underwear (Calvin Klein!) or clothing goes a LONG way. They can never have enough cool shirts with designs or hoodies. Additionally, winter is coming up (at least here in Europe and North America), so a nice winter coat or thermal shirts come so handy!

Sometimes we forget that guys also like to look at their best. So lately what I have been doing is gifting eye cream (like the kiehl’s avocado cream!), or a really nice face cleanser, like the one from Cerave. Believe it or not guys low-key like to pamper themselves as much as we do. So a nice face mask or pore patches for their nose is ideal for those that like to look their best; but don’t want to buy those things for themselves.

One thing that will never go out of style is alcohol. So if your guy is more of a drinker, then a nice whisky from Scotland is ideal. I would recommend the highland region (mild). I would also suggest having some whisky stones, since they help to keep the drink cold, so less ice is needed (and more whisky!)

Gifts for him – tradition

If you have a bit of a budget, a nice watch is always welcomed. There are guys who really like to collect a collection, so any watch that might be trending now or in the past is ideal, as you can create a habit of increasing their watch collection each year 🙂

Good luck finding the right present for him! and it never hurts to ask them to give you a list of their top things (shoes might be one that is the common denominator in those lists)!

Gifts for her

I will keep this section short as I want to make a detail version, nevertheless, you can never go wrong with the below:

  • Make up considering lip liner, eye shadow, blush, contour! (Charlotte tilbury, channel, nudestix)
  • Skincare like face serum (estee Lauder/caudalie), moisturizer (caudalie), face masks, eye masks!
  • Jewelry like rings, bracelets, necklaces (pandora, Monica Vinader, Swarovski)
  • Clothes are a bit tricky because of sizing but you can get a nice coat or sweaters for the winter (Zara, MaxMara, H&M)
  • Shoes that are in style like new balance or converse or nice Mary Jane loafers/ballerina

Gifts for her – tradition

A nice Advent Calendar if you feel like you want to give a surprise and variety (Rituals, Clinique, Charlotte tilbury). There are some that are very expensive but have lots of nice products like the Charlotte tilbury or small ones like chocolate ones that can be an added gift/tradition. Another nice tradition is charm bracelets like pandora or collection of different rings 🙂

Conclusion

No matter what, any thought is what counts. There are people who make trips as a gift and spend it on a trip rather than a gift, or small hand crafts can also come ideal like a painting or poem. Doesn’t matter the price, what matters is the intention and thoughts. Best of luck on this upcoming shopping/creative time.

I think expats are one of the strongest people in the world. They are the ones that have to go reunite with family with an expiry date, dreading the days of that return flight ticket.

Luckily for me, nothing changes but makes me more connected to my parents. However, I am already counting down the days to that one way ticket dream to reunite after conquering Europe for a bit longer.

Summer holidays have become my favorite season of the year, to get on that plane and be at home again ✈️
