Graduating Abroad
Congratulations!! If you clicked here, chances are that you graduated abroad or are soon to be. First of all, let me tell you how amazing and cool it is to have experienced the educational system in another country and for the many friendships you have probably built! Proud. Anyhow, the big question that most recent grads have is probably as the famous song goes “Should I stay or Should I go?”, that is the big question that most International students that are still trying to figure life out have.
There are a few questions that you should probably ask yourself:
- Do I want to continue studying? such as Masters, Phd, Minor or another Bachelors, if so, then this is the perfect opportunity to keep travelling and taking advantage of the glorious student life and accommodations (mostly parties) in different countries. There are many scholarships that your university or others can offer (such as international studying for free in Germany?? don’t take my word but I heard a rumour about that)
- If you are already done with studying in schools (because as my dad says, we never stop learning in life) do I want to continue in this country because of the friendships, culture or vibe that I don’t have back in my native country? If the answer is yes, then start looking for visas or jobs!! apply apply apply, the sooner the better, trust me!! And staying abroad does not mean you will stay there forever, but it can be perfect if you want a few years to explore the work field at your university abroad, gain experience (international cv, woohoo!!) and then go back home when you are ready!
- Lastly, “I have no idea what I want to do but all I know is that I am not ready to work nor study again, just want to travel and meet people in different places” WELL, lucky for you, there are many programmes and volunteering opportunities that lets you do that! for example, a summer in Italy teaching English?? does that sound like a good idea? (it was for me so I did it during my summer holidays in between graduating and starting my masters, also a nice change and break) then EDUCO ITALY is perfect for you!!!
There are many options to consider! You just have to take a day to think about what you want, what you can do and what you would be happy with. Going back home after studying abroad is not a bad idea either but for those who are eager to change things up and keep conquering the international world and be an “expat”, ask yourself those questions and don’t be scared! Graduating is a big step in life but you can take smaller steps into the adulting lifestyle that we all have to go through.
Just know you won’t be alone, because this platform will be here to let you enjoy the struggles a little bit easier!
