European Cup – Best way to connect

Posted on June 10, 2021January 10, 2022 by Adulting Abroad

UEFA EURO 2020

If you live in holland, or anywhere Europe, you might have noticed that all advertisements in stores, tv and newspaper have dedicated it to the European cup. This is because not only are families getting together to watch the match, but also because it is the best way to integrate with friends and make a fun pool.

Since the first match is Friday the 11th, I thought it would be fitting to get in the spotlight of this events. Not only is Dekamarkt giving bracelets with the countries that will be battling for the championship, but Albert Heijn is giving temporary tickets that support the orange team! How cool is that. It feels like the country has become into one. (spending of 15 euros or more)

Why should I care about this?

Not only is fútbol the best sport to watch with friends and family, but it is also a great conversation started in the work or school environment. There are many people who have created fantasy leagues and are competing against friends to see who gets the winner right or the matches. So if you want to take part of the European nationalism and expand your cultural ways, join the fun!!

This is the best time for expats anywhere in Europe to make friends, get to know more people by asking friends to include their friends, and we can all just enjoy a beer and watch a nice fútbol match!

What if I don’t like fútbol?

Even if you don’t like fútbol or know anything about soccer (can’t forget my Canadian roots), you can still take part on the celebrities by collecting the innovative products stores are giving out (as mentioned bracelets, tattoos and stickers) or just scream whenever scores a goal!!!

I am expecting a lot of “fake injuries” to kill time during this matches because come on is fútbol!!! Perfect warm up to the world cup next year!!!

stay safe, predict smartly and let the fútbol madness begin!!

I think expats are one of the strongest people in the world. They are the ones that have to go reunite with family with an expiry date, dreading the days of that return flight ticket.

Luckily for me, nothing changes but makes me more connected to my parents. However, I am already counting down the days to that one way ticket dream to reunite after conquering Europe for a bit longer.

Summer holidays have become my favorite season of the year, to get on that plane and be at home again ✈️
