Freedom Day – Bevrijdingdag
This day is known as “Freedom’s day”, which means the day the “dutchie” got freed from the Germans and took back their own country in 1945. This times were surrounded with terror, war and a lot of loss. Therefore, this is the day that is the most important around the country, more important than kings day for others! It is the day on which the country is in for another party! A symbolic quote that was shared during this 2021 is “Freedom does not come naturally”.
Things to do
So it comes with no surprise that Haarlem is the city to hold the most festivities for this freedom day, which includes a festival from 12 pm to 12 am of live music! It is actually a holiday in the country on which people do not have to go to work! (only happens every 5 years but Rutte is trying to make it happen every year, finally).
However, as covid-19 is still around and we want to be safe, the Bevrijdinspop festival , that is hosted in Haarlem, went virtual this year! There were 200 bands the whole day playing good music! I definitely recommend it and hope that everyone gets to experience the festival in 2022.
Until then, all we can do is enjoy the live music and drink your beer, or wine.
